Earlier this week, I had the privilege of participating in the validation workshop for Malawi’s new localised marketing curriculum, co-facilitated by the Institute of Marketing in Malawi (IMM) and the TEVET Authority (TEVETA) at the Bingu International Conference Centre in Lilongwe.
Having previously contributed during the initial Training Needs Assessment data collection phase, it was rewarding to sit down with fellow senior marketers, educators, and institutional stakeholders to evaluate the final report and framework.
For years, the local marketing landscape has relied heavily on external or generalised training frameworks. This new curriculum is a strategic leap forward, focusing on making marketing training in Malawi more accessible, affordable, and practically aligned with real-world industry demands.
Beyond the validation exercise, one of my key takeaways was getting a peek under the hood of curriculum development itself. Seeing how qualification frameworks are built from the ground up to align learning outcomes with national competency standards gave me a fresh perspective on structured skill-building.
I look forward to seeing this curriculum rolled out and witnessing the next generation of Malawian marketers take the stage.
